On Friday, October 27, 2023 the PBL Jr. High Speech Team participated in the IESA speech contest at St. Malachy in Rantoul. The team returned home with 4 first place medals, 3 second place ribbons, and 1 third place ribbon. Students competed against other teams from Cissna Park, St. John’s, Fisher, St. Malachy, Milford, and Tri-Point.
PBL was represented by 14 students who participated in 8 different events including Small Group Acting, Team Improv, Duet Acting, and Improv Duets. Awarded first place medals were the Improv Duet groups of Ella Strebeck and Cole Ostendorf, and Mackenzie Conder and Emiliah Brigham. The Team Improv group composed of Cole Ostendorf, Zachary Grohler, Liliana Manrriquez, Saul Navarrete Merlos, and Tessa Wurmnest received 1st place as well. Also awarded first place medals for their Small Group Acting were Lucious Babbs, Lilly Schaumburg, Zachary Grohler, Saul Navarrete Merlos, and Pyper Sidall who performed “Going Local.”
Receiving second place ribbons for their Duet Acting were the groups of Tessa Wurmnest and Pyper Siddall, Mackenzie Conder and Isabella Eaglen, and Liliana Manrriquez and Mackenzie Vazquez. A third place ribbon was awarded to the duet group of Emiliah Brigham and Cyenna Corbin.
