On Friday, November 8th, 2024 the PBL Jr. High Speech Team participated in the IESA speech contest at St. John’s in Buckley, IL. The team returned home with 6 first place medals and 2 second place ribbons. Students competed against other teams from Cissna Park, St. John’s, Fisher, St. Malachy, Milford, and Tri-Point.
PBL was represented by 13 students who participated in 8 different events including Small Group Acting, Team Improv, Solo Acting, Duet Acting, and Improv Duets. Lilly Mabry received second place for her Solo Acting. LaNyiah Mumphrey and Eden Schnebly received first place for their Duet Acting. Awarded first place medals were the Improv Duet groups of Louise Foster and Elli Sinn, Everleigh Deno and Karson Quinlan, and LaNiyah Mumphrey and Emi Brigham.
The Team Improv group composed of Zachary Grohler, Liliana Manrriquez, Mackenzie Vargas, Pyper Siddall, and Tessa Wurmnest received 1st place. Also awarded first place medals for their Small Group Acting were Zacahry Grohler, Liliana Manrriquez, and Pyper Siddall. The Small Group composed of Liliana Manrriquez, Tessa Wurmnest, and Mackenzie Vargas received second place.
“The students persevered through some trying times this season and still performed very well. I am so proud of all of them for their hard work and dedication. This group of 8th graders is very special and has guided a lot of the younger students in bettering themselves as performers.
