PLTW - Flight & Space

Get ready for takeoff! This week, our 6th grade Project Lead The Way Flight & Space students in Miss DeLong’s science class put their engineering skills to the test in a fun and engaging drone flying activity. On Wednesday, April 2nd, and Thursday, April 3rd, students practiced flying drones and navigating them to land on designated targets. Click on the following link for pictures from the activity:  Project Lead The Way - Flight & Space

This hands-on activity connects directly to our Flight & Space unit, where students are learning how scientists and engineers make air and space travel possible. In this unit, students become engineers who design, prototype, and test models to understand the science of flight.

Earlier in the unit, students discovered the science of flight and explored aerodynamic concepts to explain how aircraft fly. They also received an introduction to the engineering design process. This drone exercise allowed them to apply some of those concepts in a practical way, experiencing firsthand the challenges of controlling a flying vehicle.

The Flight & Space unit doesn't stop there! Students will also solve real-world aviation and space challenges and even plan a mission to Mars. Stay tuned for more updates on their exciting explorations!
