Gabriela Aguilera of Buckley has been named student of the month for November at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School. Gabriela is the daughter of Laura Aguilera and Otilio Aguilera-Santoyo. She was nominated for the award by Spanish teacher, Tina Hyde.
Mrs. Hyde said in her nomination, “Gabriela has always worked hard to earn and maintain good grades each year. She is always friendly and polite to everyone. I have never passed her in the hallway without seeing a smile from her.”
Mrs. Hyde also stated, “This year Gabriela has been donating her study hall time twice a week to help several struggling students with their studies to help them improve their grades and understanding of material. I am the one who initially asked if she would be willing to help and she immediately agreed to offer her help.”
“I have received outstanding commendations from other staff for her reliability and effort to help these younger peers. Gabriela has shown herself to be a positive role model to others through her willingness to help. Her attendance and commitment to her studies and activities here have shown the excellent character she possesses,” added Mrs. Hyde.
Gabriela participates in cheerleading, school musical, choir, and National Honor Society. She also is a peer tutor at school and a teachers aid for religious educators at church. Gabriela plans to study nursing in college.
