1st graders at Clara Pete have been learning about animals. They learned about habitats, food, life cycle, and how animals communicate. One animal they closely studied was chickens. They incubated eggs, watched them hatch, and took care of them. Thank you to Clara Pete PIT Crew for donating a new incubator. 23 chicks were hatched which is a new record for them!

On our last day of Say Something Week on Friday Clara Peterson students were joined during lunch hours by two adults from our community who are considered trusted adults that we can go to when we need help. Officer Brandon Ryan and Paramedic Andy Jones spent time talking with students about their jobs and how they can help students! They also had the opportunity to pass out the good news notes for the week to students who showed exceptional behavior this week. Thank you Mr. Jones and Officer Ryan for all you do for our kids and our community!

Today students and teachers are talking about what it means to be a trusted adult. A trusted adult is a teacher, administrator, school support staff, coach, parent, family member, among others who a child feels comfortable going to when they hear something that doesn't feel right to them. In advisory classes, students will be filling out a card to their trusted adult, thanking them for being someone they feel they can trust to SAY SOMETHING.

At PBL Schools students are taking the pledge to Say Something! When they pledge to Say Something they are promising to... 1. Look for the warning signs, signals, and threats. 2. Act immediately and take it seriously. 3. Say something to a trusted adult. When students do these things it will help create a safer, healthier school.

Take The Pledge Say Something Week
During March 4th - March 8th the PBL schools will be participating in Say Something Week alongside thousands of other schools across the country. Students and staff will participate in a week of activities that will raise awareness about how to create a safer, healthier school, and build a culture where students and staff lookout for each other. We will be focusing on how to build a community of upstanders, and how to acknowledge the trusted adults in our school. Stay tuned for more activities at each school throughout the week!

This week, Mrs. Johnson's and Mrs. Steiner's second grade classes created rubber band cars during STEM Legos class with Mr. Pacey. Each pair of students created a rubber band car. Then each car was measured for the distance it traveled after the rear tires were wound up. There were 3 trials per placement of the rubber band. Then the distance was recorded in centimeters. Questions were asked about what changes were made to make the car go further.

This is from our presentation from Mr. Hess on Feb 23rd. It covered flag etiquette, the proper way to fold the flag, and demonstrating respect for both the flag and our nation. We recited the pledge and enjoyed a riveting trumpet performance by Mr. Hess, involving all Kindergarten classes.
